Senior Manager of Business Improvement
Dave Cano was elected to the AZBio Board of Directors in January of 2016.
Dave is the Senior Manager of Business Improvement – focused upon improving quality, cost and service – at the Medtronic Tempe Campus (MTC) in Tempe, Arizona. Dave is part of the campus senior leadership team and is responsible for developing and leading Medtronic Operating System (MOS) strategies and Lean Sigma deployment. He also develops and delivers strategic frameworks and implementation roadmaps to help the campus achieve Medtronic’s mission of alleviating pain, restoring health and extending life. Additionally, he helps employees learn, understand and grow using Innovation and Creativity methods to improve business performance and achieve cultural transformation.
Dave joined Medtronic in October 2008 after spending nearly a decade deploying, teaching and applying improvement strategies as a consultant across aerospace, automotive, consumer products and pharmaceutical industries in North America and Europe. Prior to consulting, Dave spent 15 years at AlliedSignal Aerospace where he worked in a number of roles leading business process improvement and activities in manufacturing, information technology, engineering support and site transition activity.
Dave currently serves on the President’s STEM External Advisory Board for Grand Canyon University and represents Medtronic Tempe Campus at Science Foundation Arizona as a STEM advocate.
Dave received his Bachelor of Science degree in Operations & Production Management from the University of Arizona in May 1985 and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix in November 1997. His Black Belt certification from Allied Signal Aerospace was awarded in 1996 and Master Black Belt from the AIT Consulting Group in 2001. Dave is APICS CPIM certified.
