Using large datasets suc h as the UK Biobank Whole Genome Sequencing programme we are increasingly able to identify genetic signatures relating to disease states (source). H owever\, this association is only the start of the journey. We need to dri ll down from these genetic and phenotypic associations to identify the fun ction of those genes and then to the products of those genes which are cau sal for disease.
