Global Philanthropy Leadership Award recognizes an enduring commitment to strengthening Arizona and investing in its future
PHOENIX – Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego will recognize the Flinn Foundation with the Global Philanthropy Leadership Award during the 2026 Mayor’s International Gala, celebrating the Foundation’s longstanding commitment to strengthening Arizona through philanthropy, innovation and community investment.
The award will be presented Friday, Oct. 16, during the Mayor’s International Gala at Chateau Luxe in Phoenix.
“Phoenix’s emergence as a globally competitive city did not happen by accident — it has been fueled by partners such as the Flinn Foundation that understand the importance of investing in research, people, and bold ideas,” Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Flinn’s leadership has helped build the foundation for the innovation economy Phoenix is known for today, and its impact will be felt for generations. I am proud to recognize the Flinn Foundation for its extraordinary impact and commitment to Arizona’s future.”
The Flinn Foundation is one of Arizona’s premier philanthropic organizations, with a longstanding focus on advancing bioscience, education, civic leadership and the arts. Investing in people and the institutions that strengthen our communities, positively impacting Arizona’s economic vitality and quality of life.
“For more than 60 years, the Flinn Foundation has invested in Arizona with a long view, believing that talented people, bold ideas, and strong institutions can change the trajectory of a place,” said Tammy McLeod, Flinn Foundation president and CEO. “We are deeply rooted in Arizona, but the challenges we take on and the ideas we help advance are not confined by geography. This recognition affirms the power of philanthropy to build locally, think expansively, and create impact that travels.”
The Foundation has also played an important role in the growth of Arizona’s bioscience sector, supporting collaboration among research institutions, universities, healthcare organizations, entrepreneurs and public-sector partners.
The Mayor’s International Gala is hosted by Phoenix Sister Cities, themed “Blossoming Friendships,” this year’s gala celebrates the landmark 50th anniversary of the Phoenix-Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico Sister City relationship. This milestone honors five decades of cultural, diplomatic, and economic connections between Phoenix and its first sister city, Hermosillo. Attendees will experience an unforgettable evening inspired by the beauty of orange blossoms, the distinct flavors of Hermosillo and the Sonora region, live music including a mix of Bolero Jazz, Salsa, and Norteña, and the friendships that connect Phoenix to the world.
Proceeds directly benefit Phoenix Sister Cities and support international youth ambassador exchanges, cultural events, and cross-border community projects, as well as helping to further its mission of “Peace through Friendship.”
