What Healthcare Challenge Is Aces Diagnostics Focused on Addressing?
Aces Diagnostics is focused on solving one of the biggest gaps in infectious disease diagnostics: the lack of accurate testing for Lyme disease. Current standard-of-care testing performs poorly, particularly in early-stage disease, where sensitivity can be below 30%. LymeSeek was developed to dramatically improve diagnostic accuracy across all stages of Lyme disease, including early infection. To date, Aces Diagnostics has evaluated more than 1,000 samples across U.S. and European cohorts, including pediatric patients, endemic and non-endemic controls, and look-alike diseases.
How Significant Is This Challenge?
Delayed or missed Lyme disease diagnosis can lead to years of chronic symptoms, unnecessary specialist visits, and expensive diagnostic procedures such as MRIs, spinal taps, and cardiac evaluations. Aces Diagnostics commissioned Boston Strategic Partners to conduct an independent health economic analysis, which projected that earlier and more accurate diagnosis through LymeSeek could reduce healthcare costs by approximately $3 billion annually. Early diagnosis also allows patients to receive treatment sooner, improving outcomes and reducing the burden on both providers and payers.
How Is Aces Diagnostics’ Technology Improving Patient Outcomes?
There is growing national recognition from organizations including HHS, NIH, and CDC that current Lyme disease diagnostics significantly underperform. LymeSeek is designed to provide physicians with greater confidence in diagnosing and treating Lyme disease early and accurately, while also helping rule out Lyme disease when another diagnosis may be appropriate. For patients, this means faster answers and more confidence in their care. For insurers and healthcare systems, it means fewer missed diagnoses, reduced downstream costs, and improved patient management.
How Has Being Based in Arizona Supported Aces Diagnostics’ Growth?
Aces Diagnostics has benefited tremendously from the Arizona bioscience community, particularly through AZBio and its network of events, partnerships, and investor connections. The support and visibility provided by the Arizona innovation ecosystem have played an important role in the company’s growth and momentum.
What Does the Future Look Like for Aces Diagnostics?
Aces Diagnostics is preparing to begin pivotal clinical trials for FDA clearance in 2026 following four successful
FDA pre-submissions that helped align the company with regulatory expectations. The company expects to complete its clinical validation work across three clinical sites, including participation from a major commercial laboratory partner. Looking ahead, the team is excited about bringing LymeSeek to market and improving outcomes for patients through earlier, more accurate diagnosis.
What Motivates the Work at Aces Diagnostics?
“My daughter became seriously ill with Lyme disease when she was 19, and our family experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate the medical system with an illness that is often misunderstood and poorly diagnosed. After watching her go through years of testing, uncertainty, and treatment, I knew there had to be a better way. That experience became the motivation behind Aces Diagnostics and our mission to improve Lyme disease testing for patients everywhere.
Even though my daughter’s health has improved significantly, I still feel a responsibility to use my experience and resources to help prevent other families from going through what we experienced. If we can help patients get diagnosed earlier and avoid years of uncertainty and chronic illness, then we can truly make a meaningful difference.
What excites me most is our team. We’ve brought together experts in diagnostics, commercialization, clinical research, and Lyme disease science who are deeply committed to solving this problem. It’s incredibly rewarding to work alongside people who share the same passion for improving patient care and bringing better answers to patients.” — Tammy Crawford, Founder & CEO, Aces Diagnostics.
