BIO Technology Transfer Committee Presents:

A Discussion of Translational Research

Perspectives from Industry, Venture, and Government Agency

Overview:

Applied research aimed at stopping the spread of disease worldwide has seen breathtaking public
private mechanisms to quickly evaluate and adopt translational research platforms that have
accelerated the discovery to delivery framework in record time.
How this groundbreaking partnership works not only for the current challenges we face but for
future challenges is the focus on this BIO Technology Transfer Committee session. Speakers from
National Center for Advanced Translational Sciences, Osage University Partners, and JLABS will
review their current translational research efforts that, when taken together, will provide their
overarching objective to optimally balance the research efforts focused on advanced discovery
for medicines across the nation.

Abstract: This Panel will have three representatives spend 10 minutes each providing an
overview of opportunities for academics to utilize their program to advance research from the
bench to the clinic.

  • Julie Hamill (Senior Director of External Innovation Strategy from Johnson &
    Johnson Innovation) will describe the JLABS model
  • Margalit Haber (Life Science Associate from Osage University Partners) will describe their venture model
  • Lili Portilla (Director of Office of Strategic Alliances from NCATs) will describe initiatives within their office to enable
    translational research.

The panel will then be open for 30 minutes of moderated Q&A by Sharon Semones and Pete Pellerito
