National Cancer Institute: Building on Opportunities in Cancer Research 2016

cancer stats NCINCI’s Annual Plan and Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2016 explains that the cancer research community—under the leadership of the NCI—is poised to accelerate the rate of scientific discovery and reduce the burden of cancer.

Achieving these goals, however, requires strong and sustained funding for a wide range of research disciplines. The report, which NCI delivered to the White House earlier this month, describes current opportunities to build on and advance cancer research.

NCI has a number of programs that enable scientists across the country to engage in innovative cancer research. The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs have funded more than 450 projects to develop and commercialize novel technologies and products that prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer.
