OUR MISSION: AZBio supports the needs of Arizona’s growing life science ecosystem.

Arizona’s bioscience industry employed 40,399 in 2023 across 3,652 state business establishments, representing a rapid 24.6 percent increase in employment since 2019 and placing the state among the leaders in employment growth. The average wage in the bioscience industry was $102,161—53 percent higher than the state’s private sector average. Academic R&D expenditures in bioscience fields reached a new height of $683.3 million in 2022. NIH funding for Arizona totaled $366.5 million in 2023 following steady annual growth since 2019. Arizona’s bioscience companies attracted strong venture capital investment, with $281.8 million invested in 2023. Arizona stands out in patent activity in bioscience-related technology areas—its 3,387 patent awards from 2019 through 2023 places the state in the second quintile among all states.  AZ-BIO2024 - state profile

A key component in Arizona’s life science ecosystem, the Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio) is the only statewide organization exclusively focused on growing Arizona’s bioscience industry.  

AZBio  Member Organizations in the fields of business, research and education, health care delivery, economic development, government, and other professions involved in the biosciences are the key drivers of the growth of Arizona's life science sector.  As the unified voice of our industry in Arizona, AZBio strives to make Arizona a place where bioscience organizations can grow and succeed.

AZBio works nationally and globally with the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), and leading patient advocacy organizations.

Through these relationships, AZBio has access to information, contacts, resources, cost saving programs, and the global bioscience and medtech community.

Applications are Open for Arizona FAST Grants

The Arizona FAST Grant helps innovative small businesses prepare competitive proposals for federal SBIR/STTR funding. Eight Arizona-based companies will be selected to receive up to $3,000 each to hire an approved SBIR/STTR consultant. Applications close on Monday, November 24, 2025.
