Our industry sector generated over $43.64 billion in Economic Impact in 2023.

That's up over 88% from 2016 and growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 9.5%.

Arizona’s bioscience industry (not including our hospitals) employed 40,399 in 2023 across 3,652 state business establishments, representing a rapid 24.6 percent increase in employment since 2019 and placing the state among the leaders in employment growth. A key component in Arizona’s life science ecosystem, the Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio) is the only statewide organization exclusively focused on growing Arizona’s bioscience industry.

AZBio Member Organizations in the fields of business, research and education, health care delivery, economic development, government, and other professions involved in the biosciences are the key drivers of the growth of Arizona's life science sector. As the unified voice of our industry in Arizona, AZBio strives to make Arizona a place where bioscience organizations can grow and succeed.

AZBio works nationally and globally with the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), and leading patient advocacy organizations.

Through these relationships, AZBio has access to information, contacts, resources, cost saving programs, and the global bioscience and medtech community.

Senate Passes SBIR Reauthorization

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Senate Unanimously Passed the Senate Bill 3971, the Small Business Innovation and Economic Security Act, that would extend the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs through Sept. 30, 2031. The measure now moves to the U.S. House of Representatives for final approval.
