Arizona Bioscience Week Will Kick Off with the Broadcast Premiere of Celebrating Life & Science

CHANDLER, Ariz — September 10, 2021 — The Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio) today announced that Celebrating Life & Science, a special one-hour broadcast event highlighting inspiring stories of Arizonans working together and using science to make life better for people everywhere will premiere on ABC15 on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 4 PM MST with encore performances on CW61 at 9 PM on October 3rd and on ABC15 Late Night following Nightline on Friday, October 8th. The program will also be available on multiple online platforms following the broadcast premiere.

Now in its sixth year, Arizona Bioscience Week is a celebration of the state’s innovative life science and healthcare community.  In 2021, events will begin on Sunday, October 3rd and conclude on Saturday, October 9th.

“Arizona Bioscience Week is a celebration that brings together our community and raises public awareness of the inspiring work being done each day by Arizona researchers, innovators and healthcare professionals,” said Joan Koerber-Walker, president and CEO of the Arizona Bioindustry Association, Inc. (AZBio).  “Bringing these stories to television allows us to share our thanks with everyone in the state who is supporting this important work.”

Celebrating Life & Science will introduce viewers to some of Arizona’s leading healthcare and innovation leaders including:

  • AZBio Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement recipient Gholam Peyman, MD the inventor of LASIK eye surgery;
  • Arizona Bioscience Leader of the Year honoree, Mark A. Slater, PhD, of the HonorHealth Research and Innovation Institute;
  • Arizona Bioscience Researcher of the Year, Janko Nikolich-Žugich, MD, PhD, of the University of Arizona;
  • Arizona Bioscience Educator of the Year, Thomas Schumann of the Center for Entrepreneurial Innovation at GateWay Community College; and
  • 2021 AZBio Public Service Award recipient, the Honorable Kate Brophy McGee.

Designed in the popular news magazine format, Celebrating Life & Science segments give viewers an inside look at life changing work being done at Arizona research centers and how Arizona companies are turning research into the products and services that keep us healthy and keep us safe.

Company feature segments will include Arizona Bioscience Company of the Year, BioLab Sciences, along with Fast Lane honorees Botanisol Analytics, Humabiologics, Inc., and PathogenDx.

Arizona leaders will also share their insights in special guest appearances recognizing the efforts of over 300,000 life science and healthcare workers across the state.
