Critical Path Institute and Citizen Health Partner to Accelerate Drug Development for Neuromuscular Disorders

SAN FRANCISCO and TUCSON, Ariz., May 29, 2025 — Critical Path Institute® (C-Path), a global nonprofit accelerating drug development through data science and regulatory innovation, and Citizen Health, a leading consumer health platform, today announced their new strategic collaboration. Together, the organizations will establish a partnership focused on neuromuscular disorders, including limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMDs), Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease, nemaline myopathy (NM), myotonic dystrophies, and related conditions.

As part of the collaboration, Citizen Health will collect over 10 years of medical records on behalf of patients and aggregate their longitudinal data on a secure platform, providing insights to patients through a suite of AI-powered tools. This patient-consented, de-identified dataset will also be made available to C-Path for high-quality, regulatory-grade analysis.

These datasets, hosted on C-Path’s Rare Disease Cures Accelerator-Data and Analytics Platform (RDCA-DAP®), will support the development of life-altering therapies by improving trial design, characterizing disease progression, and helping validate meaningful clinical endpoints.

“We are in a new era of science where genetic medicines are changing lives,” said Nasha Fitter, MBA, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer of Citizen Health. “The gaps now lie in understanding diseases more deeply, capturing patient input early, and designing clinical trials that truly work for patients.”

C-Path will use the datasets to:

  • Improve clinical trial design and support regulatory submissions
  • Analyze disease progression, patient variability, and treatment response
  • Validate endpoints and biomarkers recognized by regulatory agencies

“Access to structured, high-quality patient data is foundational to our work in regulatory science,” said C-Path Vice President of Rare/Orphan and Pediatric Disease Programs Collin Hovinga, Pharm.D., M.S., FCCP. “Through this collaboration with Citizen Health, we can build robust tools and models that reflect the real-world experience of neuromuscular patients, accelerating the path to effective therapies.”

C-Path’s proven approach includes close collaboration with regulators to ensure the evidence generated meets the standards required for regulatory review, improving the likelihood that submitted data packages lead to faster drug approvals and broader patient access.
