Global Impact of Phoenix Bioscience Core and TGen Featured in New BBC Content Series

BOSTON – The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), part of City of Hope, took part in a new global content series presented by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions. TGen is a leading biomedical research organization based in the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC).

The series, titled The Next Frontier, explores how breakthroughs in biotechnology are transforming health and advancing patient outcomes. The project features TGen’s pioneering work in neurogenomics and precision medicine, and how its presence in the PBC in Downtown Phoenix contributes to one of the most dynamic and collaborative life sciences hubs in the country.

“This global recognition reflects the bold investments Phoenix has made in becoming a premier destination for bioscience innovation,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Our City is attracting top talent, pioneering research, and delivering solutions that improve lives, and now the world gets to see why.”

The PBC brings together Arizona’s three public universities, Maricopa Community Colleges (one of the largest community college networks in the U.S.), startup companies and globally recognized institutions like TGen to drive research, innovation and education in the biosciences.

“TGen’s mission has always been to accelerate the pace of biomedical discovery and turn research into real-world impact,” Dr. Matt Huentelman, Professor of Neurogenomics at TGen, said. “Being featured in this series reinforces the global relevance of the work happening here – from advancing precision medicine to redefining how we understand and treat complex diseases.”

A City of Phoenix delegation is traveling to the 2025 BIO International Convention in Boston this week and premiering its inclusion in the upcoming content series.

“The Phoenix Bioscience Core is more than a place on a map – it’s a collaborative engine driving translational discovery,” Christine Mackay, Director of the City of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department, said. “This is an opportunity to tell the world that if you’re advancing health solutions, Phoenix is the place to be.”

At the convention, City representatives will meet with global biotech leaders to showcase how Phoenix has become a hub for pioneering breakthroughs, and highlight how it is setting the standard for biotechnology and precision medicine.

The new series, The Next Frontier, launched on June 10, ahead of the BIO International Convention. Audiences will be able to explore The Next Frontier via TheNextFrontierSeries.com.
